The recently commissioned Nexgen Energy Hub in Ibadan is an important private sector investment that would support the renewable energy sector in line with the energy policy of the Oyo State government.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in Oyo State, Temilolu N. Ashamu, alluded to this when he visited the facility on the eve of its inauguration on March 10 2022.
After taking a tour of the multi-million naira facility located at Aare avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, Ashamu commended Nexgen Energy for a “vital investment”, acknowledging that situating the facility in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, would boost the state’s energy plans and sit well and support its energy policy.
He also expressed joy that the Nexgen Energy Hub will provide training for youth, diagnostics and repairs for inverters, batteries and solar PV panels.
Engr Uka Ibe, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, at a recent press conference noted that Nexgen is in the renewable energy industry to provide affordable, clean and sustainable energy for homes and businesses.
He urged the government at all levels to invest more in renewable energy solutions to run the economy and achieve environmental sustainability at the same time.
“Nexgen Energy, as a private sector player, is already working towards that goal and is ready to complement local and global efforts towards clean and sustainable energy,” he said
The advantages of renewable energy stressed by Engr Ibe was further accentuated by Ashamu who recently indicated that renewable energy was an important element of Oyo State’s energy sustainability vision especially as it relates to the Light Up Oyo Project.
It would be recalled that in a recent reaction to concerns over public lighting in the state, the commissioner said: “The recently approved IPP falls within the state’s sustainability vision, energizing about 60% of the public lighting coverage, while other routes shall transition to a clearly scoped energy hybrid of national grid, inverter and gas support.”
